West Monroe

West Monroe is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Monroe Charter Township, with 3,227 residents at the 2020 census, along the southern side of the River Raisin. South Custer Road runs through its northern portion and Telegraph Road forms much of its eastern boundary, and between them they carry most of the traffic into the city and out across the county. The housing mix is wide — bungalows, ranches, bi-levels and other detached houses. Waterloo Park gives the community a riverfront setting with trails. Monroe High School stands within West Monroe, though school assignment is settled by address rather than by which community a house sits in, and that is worth checking parcel by parcel here.

South Custer Road and Telegraph Road help define its location and connect it with the wider Monroe area. It is outside the City of Monroe, even though many properties use Monroe as their mailing address.

Within the detached-home market, pay attention to additions, garage space, lot layout and the condition of older finishes and systems. The broader area name can bring together multiple smaller neighborhoods, so the particular street and recorded subdivision remain important.

Waterloo Park is a county-operated park in the township with river access, picnic areas, play equipment and sports facilities. It adds an outdoor destination near this part of the Monroe area.
