About Detroit Beach

Detroit Beach sits on Lake Erie in Frenchtown Charter Township, about three miles northeast of Monroe. The Industrial Development Company founded it in 1923 as a lakeside retreat, and the cottages and bungalows from that period are still the spine of the place, most of them long since winterized and lived in year round. Jefferson Schools serves it, along with the other shoreline communities north of the city.

The housing came in layers on top of those cottages — ranches, later two-story houses, and newer construction filling in between. What separates two homes here is less the style than the position: a waterfront lot is a different property from one four streets inland, and the era question matters, because a converted summer place and a house built as a house are not the same purchase.

The Detroit Beach Association runs community activities and is the place to start on what is shared and what is not. Sterling State Park, a few minutes away, is the public Lake Erie beach, with trails, fishing and a boating access site. Any beach, park or boating right attached to a particular home is a question for that property rather than the address — ask me and I will check it before you write anything.

Community details reflect public records and local knowledge and can change — always verify what matters to your purchase. Explore more of Monroe's neighborhoods, or browse active listings.
