Bolles Harbor

Bolles Harbor is an unincorporated community in Monroe Charter Township, on Lake Erie where LaPlaisance Creek reaches the lake. William Bolles platted it in 1921 and sold lots to year-round residents from the start — a different origin from the summer colonies further up the shore, and it shows in the housing. Cottages, ranches and Cape Cods sit alongside later and replacement construction, and that spread of building ages means two homes a street apart can be very different purchases. Waterfront and interior lots are the other axis: a renovated smaller house on the water and a newer house built around the view are not competing for the same buyer. The township's 2024 Parks and Recreation Master Plan identifies both private marinas and a public DNR boat launch at the harbor. Those are area facilities. Private access attached to a particular home is a separate question, and it belongs in the title work rather than in a listing description — I will check it for you.

Boating and fishing are central to the area's setting, with private marinas and a public boat-launch facility at the harbor. A Monroe mailing address here should not be mistaken for a location within the City of Monroe.

For a buyer, the most useful first distinction is the home's relationship to the water. Direct frontage, a view, proximity to a marina and an inland residential lot offer different experiences. The surrounding harbor facilities make the area worth exploring if time on Lake Erie is part of your plans, but marina services and a home purchase are separate matters. Ask about current slip availability and operating arrangements directly with the facility you would use.

For any claimed dock, frontage or access right, review the supporting property documents. Look closely at drainage, shoreline structures where present, past water intrusion and maintenance records. Parking and storage can also matter if you own a boat or trailer, so check the space on site and any applicable rules.
