About Meadowview

Meadowview is in Pittsfield Charter Township in Washtenaw County, and the Ypsilanti mailing address is the first thing to set aside. Pittsfield Township is a separate government with its own board, its own services, its own zoning and assessor and its own tax rate; an address that reads Ypsilanti here is a postal delivery route, not a jurisdiction, and it carries neither City of Ypsilanti nor Ypsilanti Township taxes. School assignment follows a third line again: Pittsfield Township is served by Ann Arbor Public Schools, Saline Area Schools and Milan Area Schools depending on address, and the boundaries follow neither the municipal line nor the postal one.

The township filled up because of a factory. Ford began building the Willow Run plant in April 1941 to mass-produce the B-24 Liberator, and at the time it was the largest factory under a single roof anywhere in the world, employing 42,500 people; roughly 1,600 homes went up in the decade after 1950, raising the population by more than 6,000. Eastern Michigan University, founded in 1849 and now enrolling roughly twelve thousand students, is the largest employer in the city. Ask me whether a given address here is city or township before you compare it to anything.
