Willis

A post office on Willis Road, in the southeast corner of Washtenaw County

Willis is an unincorporated community in Augusta Charter Township, in the southeastern corner of Washtenaw County, about thirteen miles southeast of Ann Arbor. It is centered along Willis Road between Bunton Road on the west and Potterville Drive on the east.

It has no legally defined boundaries and no population figures of its own, because it is not a municipality — what makes it Willis is the post office and the 48191 ZIP. Augusta Charter Township is the government: the township assesses, the township bills, and the township is the answer to most of the questions a buyer thinks they are asking about Willis.

Lincoln Consolidated Schools serves the area, and its campus is on Willis Road itself, at number 7425. The district takes in parts of Augusta, York and Ypsilanti townships, so here too the school district and the mailing address are different shapes on the map. For anyone working in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti and looking for land rather than a subdivision lot, this corner of the county is where that trade is available.
